The “Business Formal” dress codes at both my University and previous jobs were the bane of my existence. It took me a while to figure out that “Formal” didn’t necessarily equate to “Boring” and “Unflattering”. I have now found a way to successfully rock the modern pant-suit while still feeling powerful and feminine.
Even though I am no longer in the corporate environment, I still love to wear professional pieces to meetings as a blogger. I strongly believe that dressing the part (regardless of what field you’re in) makes a huge difference in your attitude and confidence as you take on each day!
When the culottes first made its re-appearance in the fashion world, I have to admit I didn’t really see it as a trend that I could partake in. Being a shortie, I try to avoid loose fitting bottoms as I don’t think them very flattering on my body. However, I decided to take the plunge when I saw this stunning monochrome striped trouser at River Island.
Since the pants are loose and flared throughout, I decided to tuck in a plain white shirt. White shirts are a necessary wardrobe staple for me. This particular one is from Stradivarius. It has a sweet black bow at the neck, which makes it formal and chic at the same time. I am such a sucker for cute details!
The monochrome trend is one of my favorites and so black strappy heels were the obvious choice to add that oomph factor to this very strict looking outfit. These stunning babies are from Aldo; which, if you have been following me, would know is my go to place for heels. I felt these heels added a touch of glam, but at the same time do not over power the overall professional look I was going for.
My love for funky bags is no secret! I saw this boom box in Aldo a while back and I fell in love with it. It was not only a retro piece that I had to have but I also loved the intricate details on it. Even when I did work in a corporate environment, I always carried a statement bag or added a funky accessory to cut through the sharpness of the work look and make it look more “me”.
As for the accessories, I kept it simple and all silver. I wore my classic timepiece from Cartier and my Pandora charms bracelet. I also wore my statement flower ring from Sadivas Jewels for a little sparkle.
Hope you enjoyed how I styled these striped culottes. Would love to hear (and see!) what trends you have incorporated into your work wear this season.
